You are a spiritual being, enfolded in the omnipresent field of pure consciousness and living in the universe of pure substance that forms as the material world. You have a mind, will, imagination, unlimited capacities and total freedom to experience your destiny in harmony with the laws of nature just as everyone else has. Please don't say you can't help yourself. You Can!
What are some of the practical things we can do to eliminate self-defeating behavior and develop the courage to prosper? Try living these guidelines:
BE RESPONSIBLE. Acknowledge that you can, when you will, acquire the knowledge you need. You can, when you will, order your thoughts, regulate your interior conversations, regulate your moods, contribute to health and function of your body, cultivate the virtues and live a moral life, be fair and considerate in relationships, engage in possibility thinking, use imagination, render useful service to society, and unfold your inner potential. You can do it, when you want to.
EDUCATE YOURSELF. Don't blame anyone for your present lack of knowledge. Seek out the best source material you can and study it. Seek out people who are functioning effectively and study them to learn how they do what they do. Apply what you learn and make it your own through personal experience. Put your knowledge to the test of experience. In this way you can be certain that you know what you think you know.
BE A CONSTRUCTIVE THINKER. Notice I didn't say "positive" I said constructive. Know the difference. Feed your mind with constructive "mental food" from the outside and with inspiration from the inside. With practice you can train yourself to be optimistic. You can be a possibility-thinker. And you will become goal-directed instead of problem-centered. Read inspirational books and articles, listen to inspirational recordings,
LIVE WITH PURPOSE. Having meaningful purpose in life will result in everything else you do being coordinated to harmonize with your major purpose. Without purpose, there is little reason to do anything. Monitor your inner conversations and eliminate most of them. You don't have to "talk" to yourself to think clearly. Excessive mental conversation is a symptom of uncertainty and restlessness. When you have the choice, don't "hang out" with people who are without purpose, whose lives are destructive, or who, if given the opportunity, will poison your mind with negative opinions. Your life should have more purpose than to idle away your time in the presence of uncaring people. By example, when you can, invite others into your "world" but do not allow yourself to be caught up in their's, if their way is not useful to higher purposes.
I close this article with a quote from Frank B. Whitney.
to enter the high consciousness
in which blessings are yours at your
command and desire."
You have the courage to prosper.
